Solo Piano

I dedicated this piece to my dear mother Desirée Doraine on her birthday. The title means in Portuguese “Upon Contemplating an Image of the Virgin” and it refers to the devotion my mother and family have to the Blessed Virgin Mary. I used to compose at my grandmother’s home at Flamengo Beach in Rio de Janeiro, where from the piano bench I could see the Sugar Loaf and other mountains across Guanabara Bay and over which the sunrise was always spectacular. This peaceful and dream-like refuge was the birthplace of most of my Carioca compositions.
